High School Page Program

The High School Page Program is a day-long optional field trip to the Indiana State House. The State House is located in downtown Indianapolis. Participants in the Page Program are in either eleventh or twelfth grade. The Indiana State House is the state capitol building of the U.S. state of Indiana. Housing the Indiana General Assembly, the Governor of Indiana, the Supreme Court of Indiana, and other state officials.

Activities for the day include a tour of the State House, meeting with local representatives. The highlight of the day, however, is when each participant acts as a page to their representative during a live session of the state’s General Assembly, or state congress. One key task each student performs while paging is to convey vital information via passing legislation between congressional representatives. Performing this task instills the core democratic value that every citizen or person living in the United States is able to participate actively in their government and the making of the laws.
