Assalamalikum,
Dear Legacy Parents,
My name is Yasser Sammour and I will be teaching General Chemistry at Legacy
Learning Center for the 2019-2020 school year Inshallah. I pursuing a Bachelor of
Science Biology Degree at IUPUI. Throughout my recent years I have been involved in
programs/activities that I hope will implement confidence in my students about my ability
to teach. I have taught general chemistry at the collegiate level as a recitation leader
where I guide a group of 10-12 kids through a set of chemistry problems. Along with this
I am currently conducting stem cell research in the Hematology department at the
Indiana University School of Medicine. I am also involved in programs such as the
Norman Brown group and MYNA, where I council, motivate, and work with kids to
hopefully put them on the path to success. These experiences have built my leadership
skills and strengthened my academic capabilities to where I am now at a place that I
know I will be able to benefit Legacy students, with the will of God. The pattern of
teaching that I will be using this year is something I have applied to my own studies and
have shown to be beneficial. Content will first be read by the student before class, then
in class we will go through the material through lecture notes where I can continue to
build on what has already been read. Finally, problem sets will be completed to apply
the information that was read and reviewed in class and at home. This methodology will
solidify each of the chemistry topics and will push students to stay on top of their
studies. The document attached to this is a brief introduction of the topics that will be
covered this school year at Legacy Learning Center. I look forward to being a teacher
and with hard work and dedication from me and my students, success is easily
attainable Inshallah.
